Police has on Sunday evening shocked the nation by cancelling Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Kyarenga concert schedules for Easter Monday at One love Beach Busalaba.
The announcement by police attracted public uproar especially senior opposition politicians in the country. Below are some of comments;
“To me time has come for us to decide how we want to deal with this type of persecution and impunity…Do we want to go to Courts of law…Maybe. Do we want to wake up and exercise the power of the people today…..I think so. Or are Ugandans going to betray Bobi the very way you have betrayed other freedom fighters…Please don’t….this is not about Bobi Wine,it’s about us all,it about our rights and freedoms…We don’t even need to mention that other Musicians we’re allowed to work because they were not supposed to be stopped in the first place.. our campaign should be FREEDOM FOR ALL NOW. However every battle/war must have a Commander and the rest of us follow-in line…I call upon our Commander to blow the whistle,” Mukono municipality member of parliament Bettey Nambooze said.
“They have been playing ping-pong games for over a month since we wrote to them. We invested huge sums of money to meet their demands, some of which were unreasonable,” Bobi Wine responds to Police letter that was issued today cancelling his Easter concerts.
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me,” Forum for Democratic change Secretary for Mobilization Ingrid Turinawe said.
