Residents of Arua district have killed three UPDF soldiers on allegation of carrying out armed robbery in the community. The soldiers who were attached to Vuura Customs Army Detach were killed by angry mob at Pelele Village located few Kilometer from DR Congo border post.
The deceased namely Corporal Julius Kobum Lance who was the Custom army Commander, Corporal Ibrahim Isingoma and Private Peter Ola were overpowered by residents after failed attempt to rob the motorcycle from Boda Boda rider in the area.
They were killed almost 8 Kilometers away from their area of operations. Their bodies are still at Arua hospital mortuary for post mortem. Police recovered their guns loaded with ninety rounds of ammunitions.
Arua police confirmed the development saying that, they have launched investigations into the matter. They have also confirmed having arrested 10 suspects whom they believe where key suspects in the murder of the security personnel. Police also said they investigating whether the residents stole some of the guns or ammunitions after killing the trio.
Eye witness said the mob over powered the soldiers, disarmed them before beating them to death. Another resident added that the soldiers have been causing constant mayhem by targeting mainly motor cycle riders and business men whom they waylay and rob clean.
Other charged residents accused police for not doing enough to protect them from armed robbers adding in most cases they (police) shift the blames on South Sudanese rebels yet the acts are being carried out by those within the area. An area LC 1 chairman who refused to named blamed the residents for taking law into their hand but he acknowledged that robbery has been common in his area adding that many locals are tired and exhausted of unending armed robbery.
