During the Arua municipality by-election fracas, several people including Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine were arrested and brutalised the security agencies.
The tortured and charging of Bobi Wine before military court sparked protests with several supporters from Uganda and abroad demanding for the release of the singer who became politician.
Several people including journalists were injured during the scuffle as the pressure mounted on the government. Charges against Bobi Wine were subsequently dropped by the military court martial and he was later charged a long with others arrested during the Arua incident in a civilian court.
The latest latest reports emerging indicates that several journalists who were injured while covering the the free Bobi Wine protests were quietly compensated by the state.
“Some of the journalists who were brutalised during the #FreeBobiWine protests have quietly received compensation from government. They were given at least Shs 6 million,” a source told us.
Sources further added that, the journalists who received the compensation were warned against further coverage of the Bobi Wine and were told to deny him the opposition the Publicity.
