Some sections of Arua municipality residents have pointed fingers at the city socialite Kirumira Brian aka Bryan White as the initiator of violence that rocked Arua town on August 13, two days to the Arua municipality by-election which fell vacant after the brutal assassination of Ibrahim Abiriga. They are calling on the investigation authorities to probe his activities in the district weeks before the election date. Several people were injured and others killed after violence broke in Arua town between the ruling party supporters and opposition supporters.
It is also alleged by the government that, the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni motorcade was stoned by the rowdy crowds during the fracas breaking rear windscreen of one of his convoy vehicles. The vehicle belonging to Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine was also shot at killing his driver Yasin Kawuma who seated in the vehicle.
Several people were arrested in the aftermath of the incident and at least 33 people have been charged with treason four of which are members of parliament. Mityana municipality member of parliament Francis Zaake Butebi sustained serious injuries after the scuffle and is currently admitted at Lubaga hospital. At least five other people are also nursing injuries inflicted on them by bullet.
Arua based Non Governmental Organization known as West Nile Initiative for Social and Economic Development (WISED) has issued statement on Friday last week implicating Bryan White as initiator of the violence.
The organization accused Bryan White through his foundation Bryan White foundation for uttering violent statement and inciting the locals against opposition supporters while dishing them money.
“Investigate the activities of Brian Kirumira aka Bryan White prior to the election. We have seen evidence of videos circulating in public where the said Bryan White is recorded a week to election meeting and distributing free cash to several youth groups in Arua and urging them to be ready to attack, fight and chase away some leaders who were set to go and campaign in Arua,” WISED said in a statement.
The organization also want Arua municipality MP elect Kassaino Wadri who has been charged with treason to be released from prison in order to ease the tension among the local residents in the district.
