Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has expressed concerns over the increasing number of military deployments in Wakiso, Kampala and other areas yet the role of the army is to defend the country’s borders.
“As political Party therefore, we are concerned with deployment of the military to do what is ordinarily police work which is to maintain law and order,” Hon. Ibrahim Nganda Ssemujju, FDC Spokesperson, told press at the party head offices on Monday.
He added that the military should be kept in military adding that there is no condition in the country that warrants influx of military a long the street.
He added that the massive deployment of military personnel has led to increasing number of disappearances and kidnap as the army have taken over police duties.
The Party is asking for an explanation from government especially from the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence Forces why it is important to deploy the military the way they have done and for how long the military intends to stay under deployment in Kampala but also why they are arresting people.
“These days there is an unstated curfew that begins daily at about 10pm where by everyone without an ID is arrested and told they will be released after Christmas,” Nganda said.
He went to say that the FDC will continue with its recruitment and mobilization activities throughout the the country.
