Asuman Basalirwa’s JEEMA party has captured an influential State house Secretary Aisha Kabanda Nalule from the ruling National Resistance Movement party. Kabanda has quit the the party she served from her youthful days and defected to JEEMA which is allied to Bobi Wine pressure group the People Power Movement which is giving president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni sleepless night.
She first surprised the ruling NRM during the Bugiri municipality by-election when she openly campaigned for opposition Asuman Basalirwa despite her being in ruling party.
Kabanda who once served as a Kampala RCC after being appointed by president Museveni felt the ruling has ignored her after she on several occasions unsuccessfully tried to contest as Butambala district woman member of parliament on ruling party ticket.
She accused some people in state house for sabotaging her political bids. Her fallout with the NRM escalated in 2016 when she lost to the current member of parliament Lydia Mirembe in NRM primaries. She claimed her votes were stolen by the party she diligently served.
Kabanda’s started falling out with the ruling party while still Kampala RCC as she on many occasions blasted and condemned the Boda boda 2010 patron Abdul Kitata and former police chief Gen Kayihura whom she accused of promoting impunity and protecting criminals in Kampala.
She now joins her husband the highly intellectual Omar Kalinge Nyago who is a leading ideologue in JEEMA. DP too has been persuading her to join them on grounds that JEEMA took Asuman Basalirwa and Yusuf Kiranda from them.
JEEMA has already announced on their official Facebook page that she will be their flag bearer for Butambala woman member of parliament come 2021 general election.
