Jamaican website popular website The Gleaner, stated that in a chat they had on phone with Tony Rebel, he emphasized that the embattled Ugandan pop star is welcome to the 2020 celebrations.
“Bobi Wine has an open invitation to Rebel Salute. He is definitely invited to the 2020 staging, and, just as he did this year, he will probably have to get permission to travel,” Tony Rebel said.
Tony Rebel is a reggae artiste and owner of the Rebel Salute brand,. He is the brains behind the Rebel Salute Festival that happens annually in Jamaica.
Tony Rebel added that it is the power of the people that is pushing the musician into representational politics.
Bobi Wine became the first East African artiste to perform at Jamaica’s Rebel Salute Festival and the impression he left in the Caribbean land just made it inevitable for the organizers to have him back to the show.
The invitation will be received as a big blow to the government and police who had earlier banned Bobi Wine from performing in Uganda.
