Police have said they have arrested the suspected boda boda rider in connection to recent assassination threats towards 16 prominent people in the country.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said the suspect in custody has been identified as Lawrence Kibira whom he he said is suspected to be one of the criminal gang.
He added that the suspect will be charged with dissemination of threatening leaflets once the investigation into the matter is complete.
Owoyesigire added that the suspect was netted after being busted by vigilant locals. “We arrested him from Kabowa after being tipped off by locals,” he said.
His arrests comes after police placed a reward of Shs:20 million to whoever identify a man suspected to be criminal gang leader who were distributing threatening messages.
Police said the man captured on a video footage is also the leader of criminal group identified as “People’s Agency.”
This was after letter from unknown author was circulated in Kampala threatening to kill several people in the assassination plot.
The list included government officials, religious leaders, politicians, security officers, cultural and traditional leaders
Last week, the Inspector General of Police Okoth Martin Ochola urged the public to always be vigilant and report to police any suspicious individuals and situations.
