MPs sets to pass two controversial bills after age limit rulings

After passing age limit bill last year December, members of parliament will soon pass two controversial bills according to speaker of parliaments Kadaga Rebecca.

Kadaga while presiding  over the house on Wednesday 25 July revealed that 7 bills are ready to presented before the house among which are two contentious bills which had generated a lot  of  public debate in the past.

The bills are Marriage and Divorce bill and Constitutional amendment bill 2017 commonly known as Land amendment bill.

Marriage and Divorce bill when passed in to law will legalize  cohabiting, prohibit marital rape and abolish paying pride price among others

Land amendment bill passed will empower the Government or local government to take possession of the declared property upon depositing the compensation awarded for the property with court, pending
determination by the court of the disputed compensation awarded to the property owner or person having an interest in or right over the property.

The two bills before they were shelves by parliament had generated a lot of  complains among the population.

Speaker announcement comes a day before the constitutional court seating in Mbale gives it ruling on the controversial age limit case.

The two bills were  rejected by population through out the country during the consultation by members of parliament.
