Just days after the gruesome murder of former Buyende District police commander, Assistant Supretendant of Police Mohammed Kirumira , member of parliament representing Busongora South constituency hon Nzoghu William has asked the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga to explore means of providing him with security.
Hon Nzoghu told the house that unknown people suspected to be assassins have trialling him for two days consecutively and some have been seen lurking near his perimeter wall.
He added that the issue of unknown people trailing him is not new as has been happening even during the time when Mary Karooro Okurut was minister of security.
He told the house that Karooro came to his rescue and “fix” his security concerns at that time.
“In a country where we are all citizens, why should some of its nationals live under constant fear? an emotional Nzoghu wondered.
In response Speaker Kadaga Rebbecca said that the Parliamentary Commission made a decision this week to beef up security for legislators with security concerns.
Following the brutal assassinations of Arua Municipality member of parliament Ibrahim Abiriga in June this year, president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had promised to beef up security for members of parliament.
“I had not directly involved myself in the fight against crime until the killing of Maj. Muhammad Kiggundu and AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi. I had assumed that our Police Force, which is full of educated people, would handle crime,” Museveni stated.
Kadaga, however, didn’t give conclusive explanations to members of parliament on when the issue of security for legislators will be sorted once and for all leaving MPs worried.
