Minister for Affairs Jeje Odongo was whisked away from the funeral of slained former Buyende District Police Muhammad Kirumira in Mpambire, Mawokota in Mpigi District after being stoned by angry mourners who accused government of killing their son.
The funeral of Kirumira was more of political events with speaker after the other accusing ruling National Resistance Movement for failing to protect the population from unending killing.
Several members of parliament especially from opposition political parties attended the funeral. The opposition leaders present were Butambala County member of parliament Muwanga Kivumbi, Busiro North MP, Medard Ssegona, Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago, Gaffa Mbwatekamwa and several other members of parliament. Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima also attended the ceremony.
People power slogans dominated the speeches with residents demanding the ruling party to leave power, accusing it masterminding the killings that has gripped the country.
Residents became rowdy following the arrival of General Jeje Odong who came along with former Kampala metropolitan South police camamder Afande Sam Omala.
Omala was allowed to take his seat while his friend Odong was booed by residents forcing his soldiers to whisk him away amid stone throwing.
The incident Odong faced followed a similar incident when president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who had visited the crime scene on Saturday night was heckled by angry crowds.
Kirumira was gunned down on Saturday night together with a woman who has been identified as Resty Nalinya in Kirumira car by unknown assailants said to be riding on boda boda.
