Uganda president and Commander in Chief General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has suspended senior security officers following the chaotic scene in Arua. The crime intelligence department suffered most in the major shake up that saw several top officers sent home indefinitely. The reshuffle was due to the attack on the presidential convoy during the Arua municipality by-election campaign which was won by opposition leaning Kasiano Wadri.
The incident led to the arrests of several individuals including four members of parliament who have been charged before Gulu Chief Magistrate of treasons. Several people were also killed while scores were injured during the scuffle.
The president after the incident decided to suspend Regional Police Commander (RPC) Jonathan Musinguzi, Regional Internal Security Officer (RISO) Emmanuel Mugisha, Regional Crime Intelligence Officer and District Internal Security Officer Elly Tugaine among other high profile security forces that were dropped following Arua incident.
Mr Edward Mugweri has been appointed as the acting RPC replacing the suspended Mugisha. Earlier on, the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola also transferred Arua DPC to Masaka following the August 13th chaos that left at least five people including Bobi Wine driver Yasin Kawuma dead.
Majority of people who were killed and injured during the incident had visible gun wounds on them raising serious questions on the conducts of security.
