Former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has left the country and travelled to Nairobi Kenya for medical check up after spending months in detention.
The former police chief who was granted bail on August 28 after being locked up at Makindye military Barack for three months, is facing charges of failure to protect war materials and abetting kidnap all committed during his time as an IGP.
Kayihura was granted permission to travel for medical check up abroad by the military court martial which is trying him.
He is said to have secretly the country on Tuesday evening aboard Kenya airline and arrived in Nairobi where he is undergoing various medical check up.
A close associates of Kayihura said the former close ally of president Museveni is not having alarming medical conditions but has travelled for just medical check up.
Kayihura who previously served as presidential military assistant to president Museveni is expected to return to Uganda later this week after undergoing a series of medical examinations.
While in detention at Makindye military barracks, Kayihura reportedly fell sick and demanded to meet his private doctor a request that was rejected by military which was holding him.
