Kasule Lumumba pleads with locals against signing ICC petition

by Odongo Christopher

Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba has urged the people of Kasese District not to sign the petition forms, aimed at dragging President Museveni to the International Criminal Court.

Lumumba says the move, initiated by opposition members, led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye, is simply a diversionary tactic, meant to cover up for the opposition’s failure to drum up enough political support ahead of the 2021 polls.

Lumumba was meeting NRM leaders at Rwenzori High School in Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council in Kasese district to close a three-day NRM retreat.

The people government few weeks ago started gathering signatures from across the country to use it to petition against president Museveni at ICC for crimes against humanity.

The opposition has so far gathered more than 800,000 signatures and are hoping to get at least 2 millions signatures for the cause.

FDC has this said that the online petition has been blocked in Uganda but the offline petition is going without much incident save for Kasese, Ntungamo and Mukono were police interrupted the opposition program
