Former Attorney General and Nakasongola member of parliament hon Peter Nyombi has died.
Nyombi died Sunday evening at SAS Clinic on Bombo Road, in Kampala where he had been for medical treatment by family members.
According to Margaret Senyonyi, a close relative to hon Nyombi, the former minister developed complication when he was attending a family meeting at Buziga, near Kampala.
“Family members took him to the clinic between 8 pm and 9pm yesterday [Sunday] where he died. We are taking the body to the Uganda Funeral Services Funeral Home right now,” Ms Senyonyi said.
She said Nyombi has been in and out of hospital for some time.
His younger brother, Mr Henry Mayega, said Nyombi developed sudden breathing complications which prompted the family to rush him to the hospital.
“We were together at my home and he started losing breath. We rushed him to SAS Hospital where he died. They are yet to conduct a post-mortem to know the cause of death,” Mr Mayega said by telephone on Sunday night.
Nyombi, 64, replaced Prof. Kiddu Makubuya where he served as AG from May 2011 until March 2015.
He was later replaced Mr Fred Ruhindi, in a Cabinet reshuffle. A year later, Mr Ruhindi was also dropped and replaced by Mr William Byaruhanga, the current attorney general.
