Bobi wine was arrested following the Arua mayhem where the presidential motorcade was stoned by the angry mob as claimed by the SFC soldiers. During the last day of campaign in Arua municipality to fill the legislature post which came vacant following the assassination of Ibrahim Abiriga.
Bobi wine and other 3 MPs together with over 30+ people where arrested and presented to court where they where charged with treason against the state.
Hon Kyagulanyi commonly known by his stage name bobi wine was dragged to makindye barracks by army here he was charged with wrong possession of fire arms monopolized by the army.
The international criticism came after Ugandans took to social media such as Facebook and twitter with a campaign Dubbed #FreeBobiWine. Many international media house like Aljazeeea and BBC covered the story.

The demonstrations which were held by Ugandans in diaspora also contributed to the destruction of M7’s international image. Ugandans in countries like South Africa , Ghana, USA Boston and Washington, London , Tokyo Japan ,Australia Sydney , Amsterdam HOLLAND and other countries made the matter worse .
The beating and harassing of Journalists by the SFC soldiers during the pro #FreeBobiWine set hell loose for the embattled president. Akena a photo journalist to Reuter international was beaten by soldiers and later taken to hospital where he is recovering.
