Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known by his stage name Bobi Wine and 32 of his co accused currently remanded at Gulu main prison are set to appear at Gulu high court on Monday 27th August for a bail application hearing. Speaking to the news reporter, the accused’s lawyer Tonny Kitara revealed they had earlier applied for bail for the detained MP’s but have had to amend the list to include Bobi Wine who was later charged of the same offense.
The 33 individuals were arrested on 13 August in Arua town following the chaos that left president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni official lead vehicle smashed by protesters. Bobi Wine was earlier charged separately in Military court martial with illegal possession of fire arms and ammunitions but the charges against him were later dropped by the state prosecution. He was rearrested minutes after his release and charged with treason in civilian court alongside other members parliament.
Kitara revealed that they had earlier applied for bail for 32 people but later made amendment to the bail application to include Bobi Wine because he was charged after the bail application had already been filed before the Gulu high court.
He says he has got assurance from prison authorities that Bobi Wine production warrant a long side 32 others has already been received by the prison. The new development will shift attention to Gulu high court as the country will be waiting to know if the accused will get their temporally freedom as early as Monday next week.
