First lady warns Ugandans against social media

First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni has on Saturday presides over the first ever Life Skills Summit for Secondary School student leaders at the Kololo Independence grounds.

The event attracted a total 2000 students from various schools across the country.

Speaking at the function, the first lady advised the youths against social media addiction revealing that the government will in future needs enough counselors for social media addicts.

She also stated that, the government is worried about continued and persistent fake news being spread across on social media.

“We are concerned that mass media programmes, internet and social media are directly and indirectly promoting a lot of unethical and immoral beliefs, attitudes and practices,” Said the first lady.

She urged youth to embrace government programs like UPE which as been brought by NRM government.

“Last year we celebrated 20 years of implementing the UPE programme and many of you are in fact evidence of the success stories of this programme. The UPE Programme enabled us raise primary school enrollment from about three to over eight million pupils, She noted.
