Police has refuted the claims by Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu popularly known as Bobi Wine that it has cancelled all his music concert dubbed Kyarenga Extra.
Speaking from police headquarters in Naguru, police spokesperson Emilian Kyama stated that, police were were forced to cancel Bobi Wine’s Gulu and Nakawuka concerts because the organisers failed to follow safety guidelines.
“Our only concern was with meeting the guidelines and nothing personal about the person of Bobi Wine,” Kyama asserted.
According to Kayima, the organisers of the concert are supposed to follow the following guidelines;
The organisers must write to the Inspector General or Police for clearance.
The organisers must avail to the IGP measures they are putting in place for controlling crowds.
Organisers must show that they have put in place measures and capacity to handle emergencies.
Deployment of stewards must be proportionate to the crowds and threat levels.
All unit commanders must take these measures seriously.
Reacting to Kayima allegations, Bobi Wine said police behaviour shows that they are scared of the change that will soon happen in the country.
“If am breaking any law, they should arrest me and charge me instead of playing politics,” said Bobi Wine.
H added; ”I know, the regime is scared, but they emotional decision can’t stop the about to come change we’re chasing after.”
Bobi Wine yesterday petitioned the Inspector General of Police to explain the reason for cancellation of his Gulu concert.
