The original charge sheet for Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi had treason and not illegal possession of guns according to the directorate of public prosecution. Addressing a press conference at his office, the DPP Mike Chibita said they were not aware of Kyagulanyi ever having been in possession of ammunition since it wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the charge sheet.
He added that the said gun was also not presented to him as one of the evidence to be used while prosecuting the individuals who were arrested in Arua in connection with interference with the convoy of the president.
“I am not aware of the gun and the said gun was not presented as evidence in this case and i don’t know how that that story of gun comes about because I was not in Arua.” DPP Mike Chibita explains.
He requested the country to get more information on the guns and ammunition allegedly found in Bobi Wine hotel room in Arua from the police and military.
“The military and police as in better place to give accounts of guns and why the case before military court martial were dropped because they are the ones who carried out arrests of the suspects. For me I only work with evidences presented to me.” He clarified.
Bobi Wine who was first charged before military court martial in Gulu had charges against him dropped under unclear circumstances. He was later rearrested shortly after his release and charged treason before Gulu Chief Magistrate Court.
