Nebbi town today came to standstill as shops and businesses were close following the arrival of former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president (Rtd) Col Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Hundreds went on streets to welcome former presidential candidate and his team from Kampala.
Besigye was in the district to campaign for Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party candidates for newly created municipality.
Robert Onega who stood on FDC for municipal MP seat is facing stiff competition from ruling NRM candidate Hasim Sulaiman. FDC strong man was accompanied by Party president Patrick Amoriat Oboi and Sec Gen Nandala Mafabi. Others presents were Gulu Woman Mp Betty Aol Achan, Geoffrey Ekanya, Zagazaga, Sadiq Amin, Bruce Musema and FDC leaders from West Nile.
FDC supporters waited for Besigye at Namrwotho bridge close to 5 Killo Metres from Nebbi town. Besigye arrived at about 11:00am and was welcomed by loud cheers from supporters who waited for him since morning and they started procession to Nebbi town.
The excited residents where drumming , sing and blowing vuvuzuela as they march to Nebbi town the venue for the rally. The procession lasted for about five hours as the crowd kept swelling with many people joining.
At the rally, Besigye told the people of Nebbi and West Nile at large that they have been at the forefront of the struggle for good governance saying Nebbi Municipality should demonstrate that they need leaders that serve the people. He said Onega is truly a servant of the struggle who has been committed in dislodging president Museveni. Onega on his part asked the residents to vote him as he is the only one who can take their views to parliament.
Besigye will tomorrow proceeds to Arua for nomination of FDC candidate Bruce Musema. Arua seat fell vacant following the brutal assassinations Ibrahim Abiriga in June this year. The race has attracted many bigwigs including former Terego County MP Kasiano Wadri who is running on independent ticket despite being member of FDC.
