Army officers have raided the home of the King of the Rwenzururu kingdom Charles Wesley Mumbere the Kingdom has confirmed.
Clarence Bwambale, the Kingdom spokesperson said that the plain-clothed army person raided Mumbere’s Kampala home located in Muyenga on Wednesday night. The King who is not allowed to visit his Kingdom since his arrest in 2016 is currently under house arrest.
There was a report that Mumbere and his wife’s mobile phones has been confiscated by security operatives during the raid.
The rumour has it, this alleged rebel king has never rested since he was released from prison where he was detained for some days good time back. Its reported that he continued commanding some close pals in Rwenzori to increase tension in the region by calling them using mobile phones. Rwenzururu kingdom has however dismissed allegations a false propaganda by security operatives with aim to linking their king to rebels so as to justify their wrongful detention of the King.
When approached to comment on the matter, security said they were verifying the reports which were circulating on social media tha he wasn’t in the palace.
Leader of Oppositions in parliament Winnie Kiiza, who hailed from the same kingdom said the raid justify earlier reports that country is not safe. Her allegations was however dismissed by government emphasising that, the security situation in the country is not alarming.
Mumbere was arrested during army operation in Kasese which left hundreds of royal guards dead. He is facing terrorism charges.
