State Minister for Finance in charge for privatization and investment Hon Evelyn Anite has threatened to sue Observer newspaper for defamation.
Anite through her lawyers of ACADIA Advocates alleged that the newspaper defamed her through their story dated 18th of May which indicates that the minister is under investigation on order of president Museveni on allegations of receiving bribes from an Arab investor.
She is demanding 500m in compensation for damages caused to her reputation and an apology from the newspaper or else they should prepare for legal battle in Court of law.
Anite has also instructed the law firm to sue several online media houses and bloggers on the same allegations of defaming her for reporting the incidents on their websites.
Anite is currently in United States pursuing her Masters from Tufts University. While in the US, Anite’s stay was met with series of demonstrations from Ugandans who accused her for the role she played during the constitutional amendment bill that scrapped the age limit form the constitution.
