Tensions as angry youth burnt down Chief Magistrate Court

A group of angry youths in Orlu, Imo State in Nigeria have set on fire the Magistrates’ Court building yesterday Wednesday 22 August, 2018.

According to local media a report, a group numbering around 15 decided to torch down the court creating a lot of tension in the area on Wednesday. The fire is said to have destroyed several court documents before it could be quenched by local police fire department.

The spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Daduki Galadanchi, has mandated the Area Commander in charge of Orlu zone to commence full investigations into the case of suspected arson.

He added that no arrests have been made and the motive of the youth is unclear as they do not have any court case being handled at the destroyed facility.

No casualties was reported but several documents were damaged. The police urged the residents to remain calm and promised to bring the culprits to book.
